Warehouse Associate

May - August 2019 • Springfield, VA

What I liked

Fun, engaging work. The work environment was very friendly, a lot of opportunities to speak your ideas to leadership and be heard.

What I wish was different

That the warehouse got those new fans installed quicker. It got super hot a couple of days outta the week. The higher ups and managers would keep us more in the loop about new hires, so we would know when we would have to step up a lot.

Advice

People shouldn't slack on physical labor jobs, and if you can, everyone should work one physical labor job in their life. It can be a great experience where you meet a bunch of people you'd never expect to talk to, my friend group while I worked at amazon was me and these two older African American ladies and they were the best friends I had there. Any physical labor job can be a good experience for people, especially the part where you lose a bit of weight.

Warehouse Stocker

June - August 2019 • Stockton, CA

What I liked

I liked being guaranteed my hours every night! And I like being able to work with a set team of other associates so that I had an idea of how each night would be.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more time for breaks because we technically had 15 minutes but it took about 6 minutes to get across the warehouse and you have to spend that amount of time coming back too so the typical break only lasted about 3-5 minutes.

Advice

It’s a great place to work at as a summer job. I was able to make and save a lot of money very fast giving me the freedom of choosing whether I want to work or not during the school year so I can focus on classes and extracurriculars.

What I liked

There are lots of opportunities to progress in the job if you are working hard. The managers take note of those working the hardest and will put you in other jobs constantly. You will receive higher pay if you stay for a long period of time then what you scheduled. The atmosphere is filled with people to connect with from different backgrounds. There are always opportunities to make friendships at work.

What I wish was different

More time during the break after working for a long time.

Advice

Be prepared to be on your feet for a long period of time doing possibly the same job every day. Do not slack off for a long period of time because they will take notice, if you arent working and take that very seriously. Come to work with a water bottle to stay hydrated when working. Breaks only last for so long, so do not bring a feast to eat during the break. If you start to feel unwell go to their health center, do not continue working if you get worse.

Pick and Stage

May - August 2019 • Sewickley, PA

What I liked

The ability to work early in the morning for a short amount of time, leaving me time to do other things throughout the day. The people I worked with were very nice, and made my time working at Amazon very fun.

What I wish was different

When requesting days off at least 2 weeks in advance, I still received attendance points for missing a shift. I wish the ability to contact HR and the availability of HR at my specific warehouse was much easier.

Advice

This job wasn't easy in no way, it requires constant movement and the ability to lift some pretty heavy packages. Working at a warehouse that is fulfilling deliveries and me being a part of that experience, makes you want to work harder to make sure that you're making the drivers jobs easier.
