amazon warehouse employee

May - August 2019 • Jefferson, GA

What I liked

The pay and somewhat flexible schedule.

What I wish was different

That the managers treated you as someone with a brain instead of treating you like an idiot that needed to be babied through every tiny task. It was also inefficiently run because of this which was frustrating.

Advice

It's not a hard job and you get paid well, but it's very boring. Be ready for a brainless job.

Fulfillment Associate

July - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

The money was nice and so were my coworkers

What I wish was different

The supervisors were rude and disrespectful. There was little to no safety regulation, forcing one person to carry team lift boxes or lift 50+ pound boxes above our heads. Turnstiles were used “for security” but side doors were propped open daily. Van drivers were creepy and tried to hit on me. I was rarely paid fully on time. I could feel my soul die every time I entered this building.

Advice

Don’t work here.

Warehouse associate

June 2019 • Waukegan, IL

What I liked

What I liked about working at the fulfillment center is the hands on work we do. I like being able to work with my hands and making sure orders are properly being stowed in racks or shipped to customers. Being able to see the process of how orders get packaged and shipped off is so cool to see and fills me with a satisfying feeling once the day is done!

Warehouse Associate

June - August 2019 • Sussex, WI

What I liked

What I wish was different

This facility had a lot of changes that happened while I was employed there. Basically, the entire system of how packages are store changed and it was really frustrating to a lot of the employees. The new system consisted of a higher layout which was completely out of a safe range of lifting. This made a lot of employees have to use step stools in order to safely reach the new layout - which caused a very big safety problem. The managers did not seem concerned with this. It also drove our numbers down significantly. Another thing that I wish had been different was the way employees were trained. We shadowed an employee for about an hour and then were off on our own and that is all we were taught. Also, communication between management was always a problem. One manager would tell you one thing and the next one would tell you the complete opposite. It was hard to know who to listen too.

Area Manager Intern

June - August 2019 • Las Vegas, NV

What I liked

Everyone I worked with was very helpful and I was able to learn a lot. I also worked 4, 10 hour days, and had 3 day weekends every week.

What I wish was different

I often went around 7 hours without taking any break to eat or rest my feet. If I wasn't in a leadership role during my shift I often felt obsolete and was thrown into manual labor roles.

Advice

Take a tour of the site before you accept, and understand that it will be rewarding if you want to put in the work, but that working in a warehouse is very hard work.

What I liked

Coworkers, friendly environment

What I wish was different

Hours worked. There were 10 hour days Tuesday- Friday and overtime was mandatory. Sometimes there were 50-60 hr weeks.

Advice

Definitely opened my eyes to stay in school. Working in a warehouse isn’t something I want to do for the rest of my life. When August came around and it was time to go back to school I was excited.
