What I liked

I really appreciated the flexibility to name your own pay rate and hours and also the ability to select families to work with that best fit your personality and values. Additionally I liked how I could both apply for jobs and have people who viewed my profile message me personally to request to hire me for jobs because they liked my resume/profile.

What I wish was different

Advice

I think it’s important to make sure an employer has your safety in mind. One thing I appreciated with the set-up of care.com is that precautions are taken to not share your phone number or address with a potential employer (family) until you have consented and both parties are on board. When using an online job/career search tool it is important to always be aware of how much of your personal information is available to the public. Also I learned the value of creating a marketable profile that drew potential employers in. Don’t be afraid to list your strengths and qualifications, while also letting some of your personality shine through on your profile, as it is the only interaction potential employers will have with you before they schedule an interview or hire you.

Advice

I would definitely make sure you’re prepared to take care of children. It may sound easy, but kids, especially 2&under, require constant help and attention.

Summer Nanny

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved being able to work with children. The experience was never easy at times but I wouldn't trade any of the hard times for good times because it taught me how to be a better nanny and mom in the future. I loved being a nanny and I can't wait to do it again next summer.

What I wish was different

The oldest child was extremely difficult, but that's to be expected with kids. If anything it taught me how to be more patient and how to deal with kids that have a high difficulty level.

Advice

Never settle for the lowest pay option, always argue for more money. No matter how much the family wants to pay you you are doing so much work to watch their kids that you will always deserve more.
